TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Kansas health officials say they have identified a second case of a COVID-19 variant first detected in the United Kingdom.
Health officials announced Monday the second case of the U.K. variant was found in the Wichita area. The first case of the variant was confirmed in a Fort Hays University student earlier in February.
The U.K. strain is considered more contagious. A news release from the health department said the person likely became infected while traveling out of state.
The new case was confirmed through testing at state laboratories. No other details were provided.
